BI, PD, UM, UIM. What do all these initials mean? No they are not a secret spy association, they are specific coverages that should be on every properly written insurance contract. They are in place to protect you physically, emotionally and financially.
For too many people, an insurance policy is merely several pieces of paper with a bunch of numbers on them. They know those numbers are important somehow, but not really quite sure how. And since nobody has ever bothered to explain to them why those numbers are important, they focus on the number they financially care about right now, the number on the bottom line.
By going straight to the bottom and not truly understanding the numbers in the middle, you put yourself and your family in a terrible amount of danger and you don’t even know it. The saddest part of all is that you won’t even know it until it is far too late to do anything about it. Most people don’t truly understand the importance of insurance and what those numbers mean until they have their first major claim. This also happens to be the time when people understand why they got such an unbelievable deal from that lizard or caveman.
That is why I love being a Professional Insurance Agent. Notice I put the word Professional in front of Insurance Agent, that is because there are many “representatives” or “sales people” out there but only a few true Professionals left in our business.
Over the years, the Professionals have been run out by a bunch of big corporate names with billions of dollars to sink into marketing gimmicks. Sure, they may offer what appears to be an “insurance policy” on the outside, but when you dig into the fineprint you will see more holes than a slice of swiss cheese.
The good news is that smart consumers have started to become more educated on the benefits of working with an insurance professional. And the Professionals are on a strong comeback! Not only will a Professional get to know you and what your insurance needs are, he or she knows the market better than anyone and really knows how to get the best deal without sacrificicing any coverage you need. And the good news…this doesn’t cost you any extra than talking to a call center operator or trying to fumble around on the internet!
This profession is truly and absolutely about helping people. Whether than be consulting, educating, or being there for your clients in their moment of greatest need. I am proud to call myself a Professional Insurance Agent and I truly believe this is the best job in the world!
